Chairman's Message

Hello fellow Yachties

As yacht clubs all over Australia look forward to being able to open, our thoughts turn to ‘what sailing are we going to be able to do this year?’ While we here is SA have been relatively fortunate through 2021 with covid restrictions, we send our thoughts to eastern state sailors who have endured lockdowns. We hope that the timing of our event will mean that border restrictions have been relaxed and we can all go and enjoy some regatta sailing which has been sorely missed.

Here in Port Lincoln we have continued our preparations for the Teakle classic Adelaide to Port Lincoln race and Lincoln Week. We have to be optimistic and hope that everyone will have the opportunity to participate in 2022. We missed our interstate competitors in 2021 and hope that it has fuelled the fire to come back and compete in 2022. We also encourage all South Australian owners and crew to get behind the event and support the Port Lincoln Yacht Club as we navigate our way out of covid.

Exciting news for the 2022 event is that we are for the first time having a double handed division for the Adelaide to Lincoln Race and the Lincoln Week Regatta. Many people have commented that this is a perfect race for double handers so we are encouraging everyone to enter and be part of the first ever double handed fleet to take on our great race. The week’s format for this division will be courses around fixed marks and not the windward leeward format that the other divisions race.

We thank our major sponsor Teakle Wines and all of our other sponsors that have stuck with us through the challenges of covid and we hope to repay you with another memorable event.  So while you are standing around the bar working out your sailing schedule for the 2021/22 season make sure you give consideration to adding the Teakle Classic and Lincoln Week to the programme. We will be working hard to give you a great experience of country hospitality and top level sailing.

NOR is available on the website and we are aiming to have entries open by late October.

And finally, we encourage those that can get vaccinated to do so.  We don’t yet understand what requirements will be placed on public events and interstate travel in this regard, so please ensure you and your crew are proactive so we can welcome as many of you as possible back to Port Lincoln in 2022.

I hope that everyone gets to enjoy Christmas with family and friends and then in February 2022 get to spend time enjoying the company of like-minded yachties here in beautiful Port Lincoln, the centre of the universe.
