71st Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race & Lincoln Week Regatta
Welcome to new and returning entrants
Hello fellow Yachties
Ask not what can the Port Lincoln Yacht Club do for you – ask what can you do for the Port Lincoln Yacht Club.
Well it certainly seems like a long time ago that we held the 2020 Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race and Regatta Week. I vividly remember boat discussions during the week about some virus in China and how it was affecting supply chains around Australia. Little did we know? The Lincoln Week Committee has been hoping that by the time we do another lap around the sun the covid19 situation will have stabilized and we can all return to some form of normality.
We certainly hope that you will join us for South Australia’s premier keel boat race and regatta. Like all sailing clubs around Australia covid restrictions have hit us hard. Regular income from venue hire ceased and sailing events had to be cancelled. What we are hoping is that you all consider our event as part of your new year sailing calendar. I’m sure some of you are thinking, what if covid restrictions cause the cancelation of the event? If we have to cancel due to covid restrictions our policy is to refund your nomination with a small admin fee retained. We certainly hope that the uncertainty of covid doesn’t stop you from entering.
Though covid has changed the world we live in some things haven’t changed. We will still put on a fantastic regatta in a great place to sail. I have ordered 12-18 knot seabreezes for the event, but with delivery schedules hard to meet these days I hope it’s not delivered a week late (It’s never normally like this, you should have been here last week). We hope you take the opportunity to be part of our great regatta and help support grass roots sailing in one of Australia’s great country sailing clubs. We will continue to support our crayfish industry with the 3 crayfish draws per day. One thing is certain, if you’re not here, you won’t win them. Do yourself a favour and help our crayfishing community and buy a cray for Christmas.
I hope you all get to enjoy your Christmas with loved ones, those sending it to Hobart, safe sailing and above all, visualise more sailing in the new year. We encourage you to take advantage of the early bird entry before new year and look forward to catching up with you for a cold one when you get to the centre of the universe.
Teakle Corp is our naming right Sponsor again for 2021 and a huge thank you to Peter’s continued support of our event and to our returning and new sponsors for 2021.
SARIN group continue to assist in ensuring every yacht has a berth in our marina and our local food and beverage vendors are again supporting our event and ensuring you enjoy the race and the week in Port Lincoln. We know all their assistance ensures the event continues and PLYC and the competing sailors will grow the fleet and produce strong but fair competition on the water.
Our safety record remains excellent and is secured by the reliable functioning of all YB Trackers, enabling our land-based supporters to know the location of every yacht. The tracker accuracy confirms the finish times as recorded by our volunteers at PLYC finish line.
Our host club will be the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia for the briefing and start.
Offshore multihulls will start at 1445 and Yachts at 1500.
