Hello and welcome to the 2019 Teakle Classic Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race and Teakle Lincoln Week Regatta.

Once again our faithful race sponsors, and all our Regatta daily sponsors have helped us to create our great event. Our event runs smoothly thanks to our high quality race officials, to our numerous volunteers and to the tireless efforts of Fiona, making sure that the competition is keen and fair.

The racing starts in the blue waters of the Gulf of St Vincent off Adelaide as competitors challenge themselves with the 160 Nmile race from Adelaide, around the foot of Yorke Peninsula and across Spencer Gulf in the 2019 Teakle Classic Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race.  “South Australia’s Premier Ocean Race” is now in its 69th year complete with all the challenges of a Category 3 race. Additional competition in 2019 will come with the return of Multihulls and a new “PHS series” within the offshore race. Four virtual finish lines will be drawn across the course, at Marion Light, Cape Spencer, Dangerous Reef and the finish. PHS results will be calculated for a prize at each line and handicaps will be adjusted for the subsequent leg; see the details in the NOR or how it worked out in the Brisbane to Keppel Race.

So, we welcome back our regular competitors and those taking on the great race for the first time.

PLYC sailors have been busy through the winter talking up the delights of our race and regatta while competing on the east coast winter races and regattas. We expect to see a fleet of TP52s racing together with some “Fast 40” yachts from Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The PLYC yachts will be competitive with past PHS winners returning. One of the great things about this race and regatta is that there are the grand prix boats vying for IRC and AMS honours but just as exciting and important to the event is the PHS winner and everyone who enters is in with a chance of taking home the prize.

We hope the weather Gods play fair and let us have Megga’s BBQ again at its normal stomping ground; a shorter race Wednesday morning allows us an “afternoon off” on Fisherman’s beach. Catered for by the local Rotary Club with steak and salad done the country way and always cooked to perfection (& they have vegetarian options too), coupled with cold refreshments make for a great afternoon. Then if the wind Gods are in our favour it’s a relaxing downwind sail home.

In summary the Adelaide to Lincoln Race and Lincoln Week is a blend of outback adventure, competitive racing, laidback country hospitality and a whole lot of fun.  We hope you can fit it into your busy schedule, it will be worth it!

Looking forward to seeing you in 2019
